Boho Chic Lamps in Natural Fibers: Corset-Inspired Designs

Lampes bohèmes en fibres naturelles : les lampes corsetées - MIYA

Corseted Lamps, an Ode to Women — but Not Only

This is not simply a lamp.

It is a held form.
A gentle tension.
A silent dialogue between strength and delicacy.

Corseted lamps were born from a precise gesture:
lacing.

An ancient gesture, laden with symbolism, which I chose to détour, soften, and reinterpret.
A gesture that speaks as much to the body as it does to space.

The Corset: A Language, Not a Constraint

The corset often evokes the female body.
Its curves, its sensuality, its contained power.

And that is true: some lamps clearly bear this imprint.
Rounded, enveloping forms, almost carnal.

But in my work, the corset never stops at a single reading.

There are also straight, elongated silhouettes, almost architectural.
And yet… the lacing remains.

Because here, the corset is not a question of gender.
It is a language.

A language of support.
Of structure.
Of inner poise.

Holding Without Confining

The lacing is not meant to restrain.
It is meant to adjust.

Each knot is placed with care.
Each tension is measured, never imposed.

Whether it accompanies a curve or structures a straight line,
the gesture remains the same:
seeking the right balance.

To hold without confining.
To support without rigidifying.

An Ode to Women, but Not Only

Corseted lamps are an ode to women.
To her ability to be strong without toughening.
To her way of inhabiting tension with elegance.

But not only that.

They also speak of structure, rhythm, and balance.
Universal notions, readable in every gesture, every material, every adjustment.

Everyone can project their own interpretation onto them,
their own relationship to the body, to space, to presence.

Material as a Second Skin

Before form, there is material.

Leather wrapping envelops the structure like a protective skin.
It supports without stiffness, frames without enclosing.

Fabrics and mesh let the light breathe.
They filter it, draw shadows, soften its presence.

Light never passes through harshly.
It diffuses.
It settles.
It accompanies.

Details That Carry Memory

Certain elements punctuate the narrative.

Ropes, which bind and adjust.
Tubes, which structure and support.
Cowrie shells and beads, which carry an older memory, a silent heritage.

These details are never decorative by chance.
They echo those found in my mirrors and cushions:
natural materials, discreet ornaments, a careful attention to transmission.

In this way, the collections echo with one another without repeating themselves.

When the Object Becomes a Manifesto

Each corseted lamp is conceived as a manifesto piece.

An object that does not seek to seduce,
but to be true.

To hold without confining.
To structure without rigidifying.
To illuminate without dominating.

It is from this intention that my creations are born.

What After…

When I finish a corseted lamp, I always take a moment.
A moment of silence.

I look at it not only for what it is,
but for what it emanates.

They are not designed as objects to be observed, but as presences to be inhabited.

Because these lamps are made to live.
To inhabit your spaces.
To accompany your rituals.
To gently illuminate what deserves to be seen.
